Sailing on traditional sailing ships is a unique experience. Every year thousands of
people choose for a sailing trip on one of the ships of the so-called "brown fleet" ;
on the Frisian lakes, the IJsselmeer, the Waddenzee or on the waters of Zeeland. Tjalks, clippers, schooners,
aken, botters - nostalgic ships, sailing like in earlier times, but most of them with comfort of
nowadays.
A company excursion, a course, a training, an incentive, a school-trip, a family-weekend, a
club - party ; there is in fact always a reason to make a sailing trip !
The so-called "brown fleet" counts over 350 ships, which are - in most cases -
for rent per day, per weekend, per midweek or per week ; if you rent a ship, then in all but some cases, the crew
(a skipper and a mate) is included, and they can actually sail the ship together ; but your help will be highly appreciated,
and makes the trip for the guests far more fun.
Catering on the ships can mostly be taken care of.
Skipper and guests try to agree about the sailing-route ; windforce and -direction have their role, of course.
In order to help you to make your choice from the many possibilities, there is on this
website a search-function, where you can fill in some preferences ; the result will be a list of ships
that correspond with those preferences. You can get more info about any ship,
simply by clicking on the name of the ship, and if you want, you can inform if the ship in case
is disposable on the date you have in mind for your trip ; if you do, you will get a fast answer and if you want,
you can make your reservation.
